This will be a starting guide to explain some of the basic mechanics of logistic items in the game, as well as show some examples for useful tips.

Chutes

Chute use

The video below -to be added- shows how you can place a chute and how you can assign workers to use a chute. chutes can only be used for the most basic items. So it can only be used for raw materials, so farm produce, logs, stone & raw minerals. Plus: flour and animal feed. Those 2 are the only exceptions you need to remember. for all other items, it's only the raw material from the source. after any type of workshop modifies it, you need a belt. if you try to put a non-chutable item

Automatic vs. precise placement

There are two modes for placing chutes, Auto Mode and Precise Mode. By default, chutes are placed in Auto Mode. TAB switches to Precise placement. See the Context Commands to the right of the screen. In Auto Mode, the game tries to make any connection possible between already placed chute parts and newly added elements. This is useful for quickly laying down a long chute with bends and curves. However, there are also situations where it is necessary to have a finer control over which connections are made. In the video below shows a number of examples.

Priority Sorting

explanation and multiple examples of priority merging

Belts

Cloth Belts are unlocked by Basic Logic, Metal Belts are unlocked by Machinery, Magic Belts are unlocked by Air Purification. In contrast to Chutes and Rails, belts do not have a forward momentum. Instead, you need to start using the basic logic blocks.

Logistic Blocks

>> where should logistics be discussed? at the start of this guide, at the end, or somewhere in between? The items discussed here and in the rest of this guide can be used when Intermediary Logic has been researched. For the

Pusher and Sorter

Grabber

Splitter

Rails

Automatic vs. precise placement

Just like chutes, the placement of Rails also has an Auto Mode and Precise Mode. When the tool is opened, Auto Mode is selected by default and the mode is switched using TAB. example for merger example for building

more stuff will follow, but a temporary information shot of a rail network:

Example time!

Basic Logistics should consist of:

  • Pusher, Sorter and their difference
  • Use of Grabber
  • Use of Splitter
  • Forward momentum on chutes and rails
  • Priority sorting (with pushers and low-tech with chute design)
