After reaching specific researches, the player can choose to specialize a town.

Choosing a specialty will boost production of that kind and increase the chance to get 2 outputs from buildings.

Town Center requirements[]

The benefit from a speciality is determined by the tier of the town center. Farming, Forestry and Mining specialities each require a tier 5 town center to maximise their benefits (100%). Town centers have a requirement in connected houses and house upgrades. A single house lv 5 will count as 5 for the House & upgrade requirement. A house can only provide benefits to a single town center. You are unable to double-dip the benefits from a single house onto multiple town centers by overlapping.

Updating house & upgrade requirement[]

The benefit from specialities is recalculated with each change. This prevents players from moving an already upgraded town center to a distant area without houses. In order to get the benefit from specialities you are required to maintain the housing requirement continiously.

Strategies[]

  • The primary specialities like Farming, Forestry and Mining require very little in terms of housing that it's beneficial to add as much as 4-5 houses from your main town center. You can easily achieve 40-60%. Later on you require merely 8x Lv 10 house to gain the full benefit.
  • As happiness increases in the late game, you get exponentially more houses. Getting 100 houses by the time you reach the final Tech level. This means you can quite comfortably make 3 town centers with 8 Lv 10 houses each. This leaves you with enough houses to have a Town center Lv 10 for more advanced production.
  • Final products are almost always better to specialise then raw products. Raw products, when doubled, require twice the logistics to process. When you are limited in town centers and upgrades, focus on end products. Some final products double-dip due to intermediate products also benefiting from the specialisation. This greatly reduces the requirement for basic products. Examples are:
    • Mining offers both iron ore, iron plates and pickaxes a benefit. The multiplier is added 3 times.
    • Forestry offers wood, planks and wheels a benefit. The multiplier is added 3 times.
    • Industry offers iron plate, gears and iron conveyor belt a benefit. The multiplier is added 3 times.
    • Knowledge offers each tier of book a benefit. The multiplier is added 5 times. For nature research, there are items that benefit up to 8 times.

Tips[]

  • You can change specialities for free. This means that you can change speciality based on your needs.
  • You can move upgraded houses towards a town center to skip the process of leveling new houses. This significantly speeds up the process of setting up a new area.
  • Happiness is a global buff. This means that you are not required to provide houses connected to a specific town hall, for connected buildings to gain the benefit from Happiness. This was changed in the Happiness & Goals overhaul. Just having a town center connected to your production means they gain full benefit.
  • Infinite research allows you to gain more houses. More houses adds to the worker count, but more importantly it allows you to maximise town center upgrades.
  • Be careful when dealing with Commerce. Due to selling twice as many products, you will run through your stockpile sooner. Despite happiness duration not being affected by Commerce, you will find that your happiness will drop. When trying to reach a new tier of happiness it is adviced not to use Commerce.
  • Commerce is mainly beneficial when you have large stockpiles of items which you cannot sell quickly enough. It is often better to increase variation in production and use a defirent specialisation rather then using Commerce. Often when you reach large stockpiles, you will not be short on the specific type of coins.

Notes[]

  • It is advised to do this before placing too many different production buildings, as the boosts you can gain are quite high.
  • Town specialization in it's current form were introduced 24th of september 2021 with the happiness & goals overhaul.
